Who says sunrise photos always need to be in colour?

I got out for an early morning session for the first time in a long time on Sunday morning. As always, it was after a night of little sleep because I was constantly expecting the alarm to go off... only to get annoyed and roll out of bed before it went off anyway.

I'll admit I wasn't expecting much when I got to Coogee; the sky was overcast with thick clouds on the horizon, but they were moving pretty quickly across the sky above so I thought I'd take the opportunity to take some long exposure shots. There's always opportunity for a photo, no matter the conditions, but sometimes you just have to work a bit more for it.

This was one of my first photos of the morning, and I thought the vibe for it really suited black and white. The long exposure time really stilled the water, giving it a texture similar to ice, reflecting the crenellations of the pool like a mirror.

Of course, about ten minutes after this photo, the sky lit up and we were treated to an absolutely gorgeous start to a Sunday, and I'll post some of those later.
