The Breach

The Milky Way rises in a gap between basalt columns at Bombo Quarry in the NSW Shoalhaven region.

Another image from my impromptu adventure down to Bombo Quarry a few months ago. I plonked myself here to catch the core rising in the breach between these jutting basalt towers, and I just love how it is climbing out of the horizon and stretching into the night sky.

The moon was in the First Quarter phase on this night and was due to set around 10:45pm, so I deliberately took advantage of the moon-glow to light the foreground and capture the details in these craggy rocks.
