Where's Your Head At
Fading from a whole
Mind racing over and under
Thoughts slip and slide away
In a maelstrom of madness
Your head is everywhere
And nowhere
It's all you can do
To just breathe
I've seen a lot of people using the panning technique to capture incredible imagery of surf, cars, and general movement-focused events, but not really for cityscape photography. So as part of my exploration into Intentional Camera Movement, I thought I'd give it a crack.
The scene itself is idyllic; a calm serene sunset overlooking the harbour, but this technique takes it from being a mere snapshot of a fairly benign sunset to something that speaks to me on a deeper level.
When I look at this photo, I see a person fading or being swept away, struggling for permanence and stability in a world moving too fast.
And is that not what our own minds are like? That despite being in the most amazing of places, our mental health can take us out and put us on a path where all we feel is confusion and insecurity and helplessness?
At the end of the day, mental health is something we all struggle with. I know I certainly do. But it's also something I actively work on through mindfulness, and talking with friends and family about.
If you find yourself struggling, don't be afraid to reach out to your support network. Or even to me.
