Lost & Found
Have you found yourself somewhere knowing exactly where you are, but feeling a little lost? That's kind of what it felt like here.
Despite being in the centre of Turkey, looking out over the fairy chimneys and seeing this giant mesa rises up out of the valley floor felt like I had been transported several thousand kilometres away and was actually in the arid desert of the United States.
This is the sunset from the previous post. I was hoping the clouds would light up in the gorgeous sunset glow all photographers hope for, bursting to life in a dramatic scene.
Instead, the clouds were far too thick on the horizon, and all we got was that barest of colour behind the mesa, which made the scene seem almost flat with no real depth. And it felt like I’d lost the opportunity I had come for. But that’s also the way photography goes sometimes. You can do your best to get the shot you want, but best laid plans often go to waste.
And even though the sky didn’t pop how I wanted, or the light isn’t quite what I’d envisioned, I still like this photo.
I like it for the detail in the landscape and the texture in those clouds, and of course, the colours of that mesa rising up into the sky.
I guess what I’m saying is that even when you’re feeling lost, you can still find something to be grateful for.
