Road Trip: USA Edition
If you had the opportunity to shed your possessions and all that is holding you back, to spread your wings and experience the freedom of exploring the world on your terms, would you?
I know I would.
Driving across America on an epic road trip is one of those dreams I've had for as long as I can remember.
We've all grown up immersed in Americana - it's everywhere! - and so it's natural to have this desire to get out there and explore the continent we all know so well through pop culture.
But it's also so much more than that. America is a beautiful country, full of incredible experiences - from the sprawling metropolises filled with chrome and glass skyscrapers; to awe-inspiring landscapes in incredible national parks; to the people who are (generally) friendly and willing to lend a hand.
And don't even get me started on the food.
I keep getting drawn to the idea of exploring America on a journey that starts in the Pacific North West, down into California (hugging the incredible coastline), before cutting inland and heading to Joshua Tree National Park, then onwards to Vegas and the Grand Canyon and then further up to Yellowstone National Park. From there, a quick sojourn into Montana before heading down to Austin and New Orleans and onwards and upwards to New York and beyond.
This trip is semi-mapped out below, and even just looking at it I get a feeling of anticipation deep in my soul - even though I might not ever do it. Just the thought of it is electrifying.
Right now it's a fantasy, a life on the road I go to when my mind starts to daydream; to spend 6 months in a van, driving wherever the day takes me, taking photos, eating delicious meals, exploring new places, and making new friends. It sounds perfect.
Fuck it. Maybe I'll do it after all.
