Take Me Home

An unsealed road twists and turns through the Mount Mangana Forest Reserve.
An unsealed road twists and turns through the Mount Mangana Forest Reserve.

Through these scented woods we trek
Past trees and rocks looming tall
Away and up into the darkening day
As we do our best to just not fall

Sounds echo with every step
Of creatures big and creatures small
We know not the danger they may bring
Or if they are even dangerous at all

The land is dark now, dark as night
And no longer does the birdsong call
But the snap of twigs ring through the air
As does the fear of things that maul

Lo here we find a break in trees
And towards this we slowly crawl
Seeking out the path to lead us home
A path onto which we exhaustedly sprawl

This was taken from a couple hundred feet up while on a little scenic flight over Bruny Island in Tasmania. This is one of the gravel roads leading up and through the Mount Mangana Forest Reserve.
