Up the Wall

The Duomo of Cittadella on a gentle afternoon.

Cittadella is a quaint little walled town in the Padua region of Italy. It was founded in around the 13th century as a military outpost of Padua. The wall is just under 1.5km in circumference, and provides gorgeous views over the ancient streets.

Here you see the Duomo of Cittadella from behind, as the main thoroughfare joining two gates stretches past it. It was a real treat to stroll a wall built so long ago and look across the wide, vast plains surrounding it. In a photo I'll post in a few days you'll also see the distant Dolomites standing tall and hazy in the distance.

Of course, I'm not one for heights, so even though it was 'only' 14 metres tall, I tried keeping as far to the outside edge as possible so as not to freak out too much (though that didn't really help)! The details for this image are:

  • Nikon D7200 with Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8
  • f/6.3
  • 1/160s
  • ISO100
