You're Not Alone

First light catches the Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains.

On a Sunday morning a few months ago I felt the need to centre myself, so I drove up to the Blue Mountains to chase some waterfalls and generally got out into nature. There is nothing more calming than walking through luscious forests, watching birds frolic through the trees, and listening to the rumble of water tumbling down cascades and over cliffs.

As I was already going to be waking up early, I thought I may as well wake up even earlier and make it out to the Three Sisters for sunrise, as I've never actually shot there before.

The drive up was quick and easy, with the sky gradually lightening behind me. When I arrived, the weather was freezing and the wind was blowing a gale.

There wasn't much in the way of cloud, but I secured my spot and waited… all the while regretting the fact I didn't bring gloves with me. Did I mention it was freezing?

At 6:45am, just as the sun was casting it's first rays onto the tips of the Three Sisters and the escarpment across the valley and my hopes of some nice clouds were slowly fading, these clouds rolled across the sky above - glowing in that early morning colour - marking a pretty successful start to the day.
