The Coogee Bus Stop Project

The idea for the Coogee Bus Stop Project was sparked after my plans for 2020 had to be completely thrown out as a result of COVID-19.

So in the face of this change, I looked locally for photographic inspiration and projects to keep me busy, and found one literally outside my window.

The idea for this project first started germinating as I was looking across the road at the bus stop and noticed the simple beauty of the bench on the footpath framed by the rich reds of the brick wall behind and the deep green of the leaves overhead.

And I love seeing how the light and elements all interact to create a scene that is indicative of the everyday, yet also bring the promise of something more: that onward journey into the unknown; the freedom this bus stop represents for so many people.

So then I started asking myself questions. How does this look at different times of day? In different weather conditions? How does the addition of people affect the flow and feel of it? If I looked at one bus stop over a period of time, what changes?

This project was taken on to see if I could answer any of these questions.
