Baring All

A while ago now I ventured down to Bare Island to capture a sunset. I had high hopes of beautiful wispy clouds, but as soon as I got down there I saw a giant cloud covering the horizon - right where the sun was due to set. That put a dampener on any hope I may have a had of an epic sunset, but I didn’t let it stop me.

Instead I chucked on my 10 stop ND filter and my 4 stop GND filter for a long exposure to try draw out as much colour as I could.

And this is the end result.

This shot is about 4 and a half minutes, and to be honest, I could have let it ride for a lot longer as the end product was pretty bloody dark - always shoot RAW!

This outing was the first time I tried my hand at vlogging a shoot.

I had every intention of doing pieces to camera and explaining what I was doing… but when I got to where I was going to shoot, a sexy Irishman was already hunkered down over his Olympus camera busily taking photos.

So I got a little camera shy.

I got self-conscious and embarrassed, so instead of filming content, we got to chatting (as photographers do) and swapped details to catch up another time before he headed off and I stuck around for this photo (and finally do my vlogging).

Then not even 2 weeks later this charming, lanky Irishman captures a blue whale off the coast of Maroubra… and then did it AGAIN.

I like to think I got in just before he was famous, but it was an absolute delight meeting @seansperception, and now I’m seeing him everywhere!

Oh and my vlog? It's on YouTube and it is very embarassing! You can watch it here:

In today's video I head to Bare Island in south-eastern Sydney with the hope of finally capturing the elusive sunset shot I've been chasing here for years. D...

In the spirit of reconciliation I acknowledge the Kameygal people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I took this photo. I also acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Elders past and present, and celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal peoples and their ongoing cultures and connections to country.
