Buoyed Up

A small boat moored on Lake Como, Italy.We had some pretty mellow days in Lake Como, all soft and diffuse thanks to the mist that seemed to permeate the air every day.It also helped to dampen the sounds around you, making everything so much muter, and in a way more peaceful. You could hear the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore and the harsh caw of birds wheeling and whirling above you, but softer, more gracious.I thought this boat bobbing on the calm lake with the mountains rising up in the distance was beautiful in it's simplicity, that it made you feel a sense of calm in an otherwise hectic and busy world.I used my longer lens for this shot to bring the boat to the foreground, and to compress the perspective to make those distant mountains look as though they were towering above the lake (and town in the background), highlighting the scale and size they have.The details for this image are:
