House of the Stars
I made the journey up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse the weekend just gone as astro conditions were supposed to be nigh on perfect. Clouds were covering the sky on arrival, which wasn't the most promising of starts, but as the climb up the hill to the lighthouse progressed, they blew across the sky and disappeared. By the time the top was reached, there were just a few clouds hanging around, making for some sensational shooting conditions.I have to note, I've been to this spot before a few times before, but always during the day, so this was my first time climbing the hill in the dark. I'd also forgotten how draining it was - especially carrying a backpack laden with camera gear and a tripod! At the top there were probably 15 other people who all had the same idea, making for a very social atmosphere - and also a challenge to get a shot without someone else in it!This photo is a single exposure zoomed in to 50mm to showcase the lighthouse with the core of the Milky Way alongside it. It almost looks as though the light is illuminating the core!It was a really great night (despite the trek up the hill), and I have more photos to post so stay tuned! The details for this image are:
