Lost in the Light

This isn't a photo of the Breadknife. In fact, I don't even know what these are called, or if they even have official names.

What I do know is that watching the sky change from bright blue to golden yellow to purple above these rocky crags in the Warrumbungle National Park was nothing short of magical.

I love how the colour in the sky fades as it washes across this photo; how the trees on the saddle are bathed in golden light; how the rocks and shadows are dark, yet full of texture; how Australian this scene really is.

But most of all I love the memories this brings.

Hurleys Camp is an out of the way campsite in the Warrumbungles.

To get to it, you follow the Breadknife and Grand High Tops walk before turning down a small, semi-hidden track. The track seems to be very lightly trafficked as we sometimes questioned if we were going in the right direction or just heading deeper into a gully we had no business going into.

So we followed this overgrown track before eventually we reached our campsite for the night - a small clearing surrounded by large apple gums and wattles stretching into the sky, a small fire pit, and Belougery Spire towering above us.

Once we'd arrived and set up our tents we decided to scramble up the hill behind us for sunset, and we were greeted with this view before us.

These are the memories I love; time spent with beautiful friends in beautiful places.

In the spirit of reconciliation, I acknowledge the Gamilaroi, the Wiradjuri, and the Weilwan people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I took this photo.
