Wildest Dreams

The core of the Milky Way rises above a channel in Bombo Quarry in the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales.

Bombo Quarry is such a magical place. You might remember me posting a photo from there a while ago now, and this image is from the same session.

I parked myself at the end of this channel, watching the tide crashing in over the rocks and below the rising core of the Milky Way.

The foreground was also lit by the setting moon, which gave it a lovely even glow (though I do sort of wish there wasn't as much shadow in the base of the image).

This is just one shot. I did take multiple to stack to reduce noise, but then you miss out on the rivulets of ocean running off the rocks - which I think adds a nice little detail to the image.
