Fan the Flames

Cooking satay on the street, the stall-holder fans the flames.

It's stiflingly hot, and humid to boot. Coal braziers are lit, and the sizzle of meat carries across. The scent of it all has you licking your lips.

Thick smoke hangs in the still evening air, not a hint of a breeze, and trickles of sweat run down through your hair.

Hawkers are here, hawkers are there, and pushing through the crowd spruikers try selling you their wares.

"A satay for a dollar. A beer for 5. Sit down, don't worry, won't you please have a seat? Buy from us, not from them. We're number 1, and don't you forget!"

You're overwhelmed, decisions await; who's food will you buy? But no matter that now, a beer is what I will take.
