Love in the Details

An intimate look at some of the native flora in Stockton sand dunes.

On Saturday I made the trip up to Newcastle from Sydney and met up with @images_by_brad and @jtchittham for some photography-related shenanigans.

First on the agenda was to head into the dunes, but this plan was cut short when we saw a massive storm developing to the west and heading our way. If there's one place you don't want to be in the middle of a thunderstorm, it's probably going to be standing completely exposed in the middle of some sand dunes!

As we didn't venture too far in, we didn't get the lovely ridges and valleys you see from the towering dunes. Instead we all got low to pick out the details.

I used my massive 80-400mm lens for these shots as I wanted to compress everything in the image, and get that lovely out of focus look you get when using a long lens.

It's quite a simple composition, but that's what I love about it.

The details for this image are:

  • Nikon D750 with Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G VR lens
  • f/5.6
  • 1/800s
  • ISO250
